Healing Hearts at UC Davis

Lori Prizmich sees her son’s open-heart surgery as a positive experience.

While surgery may not be something most would consider positive, Lori views it this way because of the compassion and care of the doctors and nurses at UC Davis Children’s Hospital.

“They made us feel like we were part of their family,” Lori said. “The team at UC Davis paid attention to even the smallest detail to make sure my son and the rest of my family were cared for.”

Lori’s son, Chad, was born with a heart defect that required surgery when he was only 10 days old. Chad would have another surgery when he was 8 and one more at age 16. In fact, Lori was so adamant that UC Davis perform the latter surgery that she had her insurance company give her an exemption since UC Davis wasn’t covered by her plan.

Today, Chad is healthy and studying managerial economics at UC Davis and planning to graduate in June.

As a RE/MAX agent, Lori understands how important it is that agents support their local children’s hospitals through the Miracle Home Program. She started giving $25 after each closed transaction, but quickly bumped that up to $50. Now she gives $100. She also takes her team of Realtors on tours of the hospital so they can see the impact their donations make.

The attention to detail UC Davis gave Chad carried over into Lori’s work as a real estate agent.

“It’s all about the client,” she said. “You go down to the most minute detail to ensure they’re cared for.”

Truly, this is what CMN Hospitals do every day for the kids and families they serve.
